In the beginning…
- Vertex was originally conceived to provide automated business process solutions to independent explorers and producers.
- Business model was to implement on a ‘turnkey’ basis on in-house computers that were becoming popular in the late 1970’s
Evolution…
- On-going application maintenance and product enhancements allowed for cost-sharing across the customer base, as an effective way to encourage continuous product improvement
- As technology evolved, Vertex applications were updated in parallel to run on industry-standard hardware and system platforms, including UNIX, Linux, NT Server of many different brands.
- Progress Software was selected early, as the development platform of choice because of its broad range of development tools and data base support.

- Progress, Oracle, and SQL Server are all supported platforms, using the standard application suite.
What does the future hold?
- Today, Vertex applications can be deployed as a hosted solution on the internet, or in-house in client-server mode.
- The software development group is evaluating recent announcements from Progress as a ‘solution leader’ in the integration of Business Process Management with its development tools. This promises to be exciting!
